Relay runners descend to Comb Ridge near the end of the “Three Sisters Prayer Run”, 12.30.17

Sacred Strides For Healing Route Information:

Sacred Strides For Healing runners will converge near Bluff, UT at the end of Thursday, March 15th. Runners will come together from three main routes over 4 days (March 12, 13, 14, 15). On March 16th, the unified runners will make their way to a campsite in Allen Canyon on Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Lands for a gathering. The three routes to the campsite are:

  1. Flagstaff to Leupp to Dilkon to First Mesa to Pinon to Kayenta to Comb Ridge

  2. Alamo Navajo to Pueblo Communities to Cuba to Shiprock to Ute Mountain Ute to Aneth

  3. Pinehill to Zuni to Gallup to Window Rock to Sawmill to Chinle to Round Rock to Mexican Water

Teams of runners will be assigned 20-50 mile sections along pre-determined routes to ensure the entire distance can be covered safely.

We are asking youth from participating Tribes to run laps in their school yards to give relay runners “credit” for the miles it would take them to run home (after the gathering). If you are interested in coordinating youth participation at your school or community center, please fill out the Youth Coordinator Registration form so we can contact you immediately.

Sacred Strides For Healing Gathering Information:

Sacred Strides For Healing runners have received permission from the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe to camp on their lands in Allen Canyon near the Bears Ears. Exact campsite details will be shared with those that exhibit a genuine committment to this effort.

This campsite will only be available to participants the evenings of March 16th and 17th. This is not an occupation. The land will only sustain a brief presence by a group our size. Please come prepared to camp out in winter weather conditions. Some meals will be provided but please also be prepared to take care of your self and other members of your party.

The gathering is intended to bring participants together in prayer for the land of our ancestors. Intoxicated personalities will not be tolerated.

Registration for the Sacred Strides For Healing relay and gathering can be accessed HERE

Thank you for your cooperation. Once you have registered a Wings representative will contact you to discuss how you’d like to participate and where.

About the Bears Ears Prayer Run Alliance:

We are a group of concerned citizens trying to honor the foresight and effort our Tribal leaders exhibited by creating The Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition in 2015. Though the initial vision and protections of “Bears Ears National Monument” are now in danger, the land and its resources will forever remain a part of our heritage. We will continually return to the land on foot from our respective homelands to pray for its future and foster appreciation for our ancestral teachings.

The Bears Ears Prayer Run Alliance was formed in early 2018 after organizers participated in the “Three Sisters Prayer Run” from Flagstaff to Bears Ears during the final days of 2017. The organizers are members of the participating Tribes. Through continued collaboration with groups like Utah Diné Bikéyah, Wings of America and the Seventh Generation Fund for Indigenous Peoples, we would like to create opportunities for Native youth to explore and know their ancestral homelands.
