Standing with the Apache Peoples
Seventh Generation Fund Denounces Plans to Allow Mining of Sacred Indigenous Land
April 29, 2025
Dear Relatives,
Oak Flat is integral to the survival of the Apache Peoples. The Land is a direct connection to the Creator and is a sacred site where Apache pray, collect water and medicinal plants for ceremonies, gather acorns and other foods and honor Ancestors buried there. The current administration’s transfer of this sacred land to mining interest is unjust and a reminder that colonialism remains alive and well. This decision is a direct violation of FPIC – the international human right of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent – which the U.S. recognized and endorsed internationally in 2011. The Apache have not consented to the transfer of their land. Apache land, spirituality and culture are not the government’s to extract and displace for financial gain. We stand in solidarity with our Apache Relatives who continue to fight to save Oak Flat.
