Thriving Women’s Initiative – Alaska

Using an Appreciative Inquiry approach for the Thriving Women Initiative in Alaska, Dr. Michael Yellow Bird conducted evaluations of seven Native women-led violence prevention projects in Alaska.

The Appreciative Inquiry approach is detailed in the methods section of this report. Several of the positive core attributes of the projects are described in the narratives section, the 4-D Appreciative Inquiry Cycle Model, and the appendix of this report. The evaluation period lasted from June 30, 2017 to June 30, 2018. The Thriving Women – Alaska program was intended to support and optimize the impact of the projects in their efforts to build organizational and staff capacities and community empowerment for the prevention of violence against Alaska Native women.
